Microphone Troubleshooting (Phone)
Check your headphones if you're using them.
iPhone: Check your phone's Settings to see which device is being used for the microphone.
Android: Tap the gear icon (βοΈ) in the top right corner of the Apprendly RolePlay window. You'll see a button labeled "Audio settings." Tap this to select which microphone is in use.
Microphone Troubleshooting (PC & Mac)
Check Microphone Mute:
Physical Mute: Some microphones or headsets have a physical mute button. Ensure it's not engaged.
Software Mute: Check if the microphone is muted within your operating system's sound settings or within your web browser's permissions.
Verify Microphone Input: Ensure the correct microphone (e.g., your headset mic, external mic, or built-in mic) is selected as the default input device for your system.
Windows: Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray, select "Sound settings" or "Open Sound settings," and check the "Input" device. Speak into the microphone and check the "Test your microphone" or "Input volume" bar to see if it registers sound.
macOS: Go to Apple menu > "System Settings" (or "System Preferences") > "Sound" > "Input" tab, and select your preferred microphone. Speak into it and observe the "Input level" meter.
Adjust Microphone Volume/Boost: If the character hears you but the volume is too low, you might need to increase the microphone input volume.
Windows: In "Sound settings" > "Input," click "Device properties" for your microphone, and adjust the "Volume" or "Microphone Boost."
macOS: In "System Settings" (or "System Preferences") > "Sound" > "Input," adjust the "Input volume" slider.
Browser Permissions: Ensure your web browser has permission to access your microphone for the Apprendly RolePlay website.
Chrome/Edge: Look for a camera/microphone icon in the address bar when on the RolePlay page. Click it and ensure "Allow" is selected for your microphone.
Firefox: Click the padlock icon in the address bar, then "Permissions," and ensure "Use the microphone" is set to "Allow."
Safari: Go to Safari > "Settings" (or "Preferences") > "Websites" > "Microphone," and ensure "Allow" is selected for the RolePlay website.
Disable Exclusive Mode (Windows): Sometimes, other applications can take exclusive control of the microphone.
Windows: Right-click the speaker icon > "Sound settings" > "Input" > "Device properties" > "Advanced" tab. Uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device."
Close Other Applications: Ensure no other applications (like video conferencing tools, voice recorders, or other browser tabs) are actively using your microphone, as this can cause conflicts.
Restart Your Computer: As a last resort for persistent issues, a full computer restart can often resolve underlying driver or software conflicts.
General Speaker Troubleshooting (PC & Mac)
Test Other Audio: Play a YouTube video or music from another application to confirm your speakers are working generally.
Check Volume Levels: Ensure your computer's master volume is turned up, and that the Apprendly RolePlay window/browser tab isn't muted. Look for a speaker icon in your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac).
Verify Speaker Output: Make sure the correct playback device (e.g., your headphones, external speakers, or built-in speakers) is selected as the default audio output for your system.
Windows: Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray, select "Sound settings" or "Open Sound settings," and check the "Output" device.
macOS: Go to Apple menu > "System Settings" (or "System Preferences") > "Sound" > "Output" tab, and select your preferred device.
Restart Browser/Application: Sometimes, simply restarting your web browser or the application where Apprendly RolePlay is embedded can resolve temporary audio glitches.
